Extreme Makeover

31st January 2006

Due to the snowboarding trip, Taylor’s visit and simply Laziness, I had been drinking and eating pretty bad for the last couple weeks. And I must say I have not lifted a single weights or run for the last two week.

Over the course on next 17 days I will be on a very strict diet and work out program, so that I can get back in shape for the wedding that I’m attending on the 25th of February.

As you can see from the picture below, there is some work that needs to be done to the waist area. Hopefully with my new workout plan I will able to lower my body fat and increase my lean mass.

WTF

30th January 2006

I cannot believe it is end of January and the temperature outside is 54. By far this year had been the worst skiing season I’ve ever seen in 15 years. Chances are Rochester will probably get a big snowstorm while I’m in Hong Kong, and by the time when I come back everything will melt away.

Beer?

26th January 2006

Got this from my good friend Bob. It’s pretty funny.

After the Great Britain Beer Festival, in London, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer. The guy from Corona sits down and says “Hey Senior, I would like the world’s best beer, a Corona.”

The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him. The guy from Budweiser says “I’d like the best beer in the world, give me ‘The King Of Beers’, a Budweiser.”

The bartender gives him one. The guy from Coors says “I’d like the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors.”

He gets it. The guy from Guinness sits down and says
“Give me a Coke.”

The bartender is a little taken aback, but gives him what he ordered. The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask “Why aren’t you drinking a Guinness?”

The Guinness president replies “Well, if you guys aren’t drinking beer, neither will I.”

Getting Through a Plateau

25th January 2006

I was looking through my portfolio last night. I must say it is sad; all I’ve ever done over the pass 5 years are all corporate stuff. The look of those work are so dry that I don’t even want to associate it with the term graphic design.

I was once a pretty creative designer until I started working at my current job. Due to the nature of our clients, very few occasions I get to design something that is a little bit trendier or different. I worked on this one project about a year ago. Basically all I needed to do is to use the align tool to align graphic elements vertically, horizontally and center everything. That was it! I did that for almost 6 months.

I had done a few freelance projects last year. I found myself could not break away from this corporate dry look. I’m thinking in order for me to achieve what I’m looking for in design, I really need to take a step back loosen up and go back to the marker and paper. I need to create a few fun projects for myself. It is the fun and passion in each project what drives people to do good work.

Over the next few months I’m going to cut back on my movies watching time, and spend sometime to create some snowboard graphics just for fun. And if that goes well, I will design a new site to go a long with it. I’m already seeing a great potential in that as a portfolio piece. Who knows, maybe Burton will hire me as their designer someday.
