Marathon Ready

30th September 2006

After 3:45:32 I have completed my 20 miles training run. The longest training run before race day. Overall I’m feeling pretty good, since I was able to work at my side job at the restaurant right after.

Today’s run was a little different compare to the others, I ran without music.
Why? Due to all the swimming I’ve done over the pass few months, my back muscles (lat) had develop more than I expected, so if I run any long distance with my Ipod on, the arm strap would do nothing good but cause some pretty serious chafing in my underarm. I had to learn that in a hard way few weeks ago.

Anyway, running without Eyes of the Tiger took me a little while to get use to, but in the end I was glad I didn’t have my Ipod on. I was able to focus and concentrate more. I was able to listen to my breathing pattern, and feel the joy of endurance.

Now that I have already pre-burn more than a day worth of calories intake, I think I’m allowed to have a couple pints of Guinness to ease my soreness. Cheers! The Mothman Prophecies video

20 miler

29th September 2006

I will be doing my 20 miles training run first thing tomorrow morning. I think I’m ready for it; actually I have to be ready. After that I will begin my tapering and trim down my weekly mileage until race day.

Over the last month I had been experimenting the prefect breakfast that will give me the energy and also sit well in my stomach, so far I had narrow it down to 56 grams of plain oatmeal boiled in hot water. It tasted absolutely crap but it is good long lasting fuel for the body.

Anyway weekend is finally here, see you all next week!

Can't wait anymore

best kept secret The Papa Joes’s Italian Eatery Universal Soldier .

Papa Joe’s was recommended to me about a month ago from a co-worker of mine. She told me that the owner of PPJ use to be the head chef at Agatina’s. Since I only live right around the corner it, I figured why not give it a try.

When comes to dining out, I’m all about to the quality of food instead of the quantity of food. But after eating at PPJ, I must say they are a sure win in both quality and quantity categories.

I had half an order of the Chicken French. To all my readers in Hong Kong Chicken French is basically a slice of chicken breast dipped in egg and sautéed in a lemon sherry wine butter sauce and served over escarole.

A lot of time chicken breast can be a bit tough and dry when it is not cooked properly, but the Chicken French at PPJ was not the case. It was very juicy, tender and flavorful; everything was just very well balance. It was very good and very easy to eat.

In terms of quantity, let’s just say I had to split that half order into two meals, and the second half tasted just as good after I nuke it in the microwave the next day.

Overall Papa Joe’s is a very nice home style cooking Italian eatery. It provides the perfect comfort food that will warm up your tummy in the middle of the Rochester winter. One last thing, since the PPJ building use to be a bank, you can always phone in your order ahead of time and pick it up at the drive thru window.

A runner’s worst nightmare

20th September 2006

!!!Don’t read if you are eating!!!

I woke up yesterday morning and went to the canal path for a quick morning run before work. Since I wasn’t planning on a long run, therefore I didn’t really plan much ahead like the way I usually do before a race. BIG MISTAKE!

I was about 2 miles into one direction on the canal path; suddenly this cool chill wind blew right onto me, immediately I felt this hurricane like feeling and rumbling noise in my stomach. Oh no I was like this is not happening to me in the middle of the canal path.

I tried to stay clam and took a couple deep breath, hoping that sense of urgency feeling will go away. It did go away (only for a short while), so I decided to run back towards the park near where I parked. Since I was only 2 miles away; I was thinking if I ran fast enough I could make it back to the park’s restroom in less than 18 minutes.

I started to pick up my pace, but only after about half a mile I felt that hurricane in my stomach again. I started to look around my surrounding area to see if there were any discreet locations behind the woods, but then at the time I was thinking to myself There is no way I’m going to #2 in this area, what happen if there are snakes, bugs, bears and the worst of all human. It is just not possible. Time was running out and I could not run because gravity plus force from running would only speed up my waste management system. The closest restroom was 1.5 miles away and I needed a quick solution to get myself from point A to point B without disturbing my stomach.

………

Power walk became my life saver! Power walk allowed me to move faster than walk but kept my stomach more stable than running. As I was power walking I knew I looked like one of those soccer moms or the shopping mall morning walkers. But I didn’t care I just needed to make it to the restroom, and I did! What a relief ahhhhhhhhh!
