The Believer

To all my supporters

I just want to say a big thank you to everyone for all of your donation. As of yesterday I have reached my fundraising goal of 1000 dollars. Let’s keep the momentum going and see how much more we can raise for the remaining 2 months.

Please help me spread the word around.

Thank you

Hello friends and family,

In March 2005, I decided to quit my pack-a-day smoking lifestyle. I started running as a method to distract myself from the nicotine withdrawal. One mile at a time and three years later, I have finished 3 marathons and also completed a handful of triathlons ranging from the sprint distance to a half ironman.

This year I decided to up the ante: On July 20th 2008, I will be making my first attempt to complete the Ironman Lake Placid Triathlon. The Ironman is a grueling 140.6-mile journey consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.4-mile run. All must be completed in 17 hours for athletes to earn the coveted title of Ironman.

I want this experience to be more than just crossing the finish line, so to make my Ironman journey more meaningful, I have decided to fundraise for Room To Read.

Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to establish schools, libraries, and other educational infrastructure. They seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education is a lifelong gift that empowers people to ultimately improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries, and future generations. Through the opportunities that only an education can provide, they strive to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.

For the longest time I always think that getting my body ready for the Ironman is the far most important and far most difficult task in my life. I really wish that is still the case because life will be a lot simpler that way.

I found out a bad news yesterday, my mother is going to have a pretty major surgery next week, and she will have to hospitalize for 10 days.

This is the first time in my life that I actually feel completely useless. I mean there is simply nothing I can do to ease her pain and worries. (She is trying very hard not to show it)

Anyway, to all my family in HK, please don’t worry too much right now; feel free to call me or my sister anytime if you have any questions or concern.August move

Saturday
AM
Paul and I rode 42 miles from Mendon to Hemlock andback. The first 15 miles was extremely slow due to a strong head wind, I could barely go above 13 mph on flat.

Mile 16 was when the real fun began. As Paul rode pass me, he shouted “See you at the top” It was a 4 mile climb. The hill was very deceiving. It wasn’t very steep, but it was just long and never ending. I had to break it up into small sections in my head just so that I could stay focus mentally.

PM
Swam 1500 yards in the evening

Sunday
I ran 8 miles this afternoon. My legs were a bit sore from yesterday’s bike ride, but I told myself I better start getting use to it, because running with fresh legs is a pure luxury.

Nothing

24th April 2008
.!.

So here I’m sitting in front of my laptop trying to come up with something to write about.

…………………

I got nothing.

I mean other than training for the ironman and work; I really don’t have a whole lot going on at this point of my life. Well, actually it is not that I don’t want to do more; I just simply don’t have any extra time for any additional activities.

Let’s be honest here, I’m pretty sure by now most of you are already sick and tired of hearing the word triathlon or ironman. Bear with me for 86 more days, if I cross that finish line; I guarantee you will not hear me talk about triathlon for awhile.

But on the other hand if I fail to cross that finish line, well… let’s not think about that possibility.

Great deal!!!

Training report

Paul:

I went out for a 40 mile ride on Saturday.

I rode from Mendon to Scottsville to Canavaugus to Lima to Honeoye Falls and back to mendon. The temperature was a lot warmer than I expected, by the time when I climbed back up Clover St.(mile 36) I already finished my 3 bottles of water.
I tried to fill them back up at your house, but you must had your spicket turned off : (

Thanks to the sweet old lady who lives on 1238 Rush Mendon Rd, she filled my bottles back up with some of the best tasting water on earth.

Overall the ride went pretty well, the only part that I had a little trouble was the climb in Avon near the roundabout. It took me a good 5 mins to recover after that climb.

I tried to do some light jog right after the bike, but my legs just didn’t like me, so I just walked around the park for about 15 mins

Total calories burned that day was 3010
